What's Happening Around the SWAMP!

Good evening Gator Families,

As we close the final newsletter of our first school year at Ella Banks Junior High, I find myself reflecting on everything that has been built together over these last ten months.

What began as a brand-new school with empty hallways, unfinished traditions, and countless unknowns quickly became something far greater than a building. It became a community.

A family. A place filled with pride, resilience, growth, laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories.

This year was never going to be perfect. Being the inaugural year meant we were creating systems, traditions, routines, and culture in real time. There were moments where we celebrated huge victories, moments where we learned hard lessons, and moments where we simply had to figure things out together.

Through all of it, your support, grace, trust, and partnership mattered more than you know.

Our students accomplished incredible things this year. From academics to athletics, fine arts to clubs, leadership opportunities to campus events, our Gators showed what it means to represent Banks with pride. More importantly, they helped establish the heart of who this campus will continue becoming for years to come.

To our parents, thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your children every single day.

Thank you for encouraging them, supporting our campus, communicating with us, volunteering, attending events, and standing beside us during Year One. Schools cannot thrive without strong partnerships between home and school, and we are grateful for the community that has formed around Banks Junior High.

As we head into summer, I hope each of you finds time to rest, recharge, travel, laugh, and spend meaningful time together as a family.

Students, you have earned it.

While Chapter One may be coming to a close, this is only the beginning for Ella Banks Junior High. The foundation has been built, and the future ahead for this campus is incredibly bright.

Thank you for helping make Year One unforgettable.

With all my LOVE,
Dr. Dickey💚🐊

2026–2027 Required Student Transportation Form

Banks is TIED for FIRST....Let's Keep Pushing Families

All Lamar CISD parents and guardians must complete the required Student Transportation Form. This form confirms each student’s main mode of transportation and allows families to officially request bus transportation for the 2026–2027 school year. The form is available on Skyward for parents and guardians.

Important deadlines for 2026-2027:
  • Submit the form no later than August 2, for students to ride the bus for the first day of school.
  • If a form is not submitted by August 2, students WILL NOT receive bus transportation until August 24.
  • For all forms submitted between August 3-21, bus transportation will begin on August 24.
  • Contact the student's campus to request any change in transportation choice after August 21. Please note that any changes made after August 21 may take up to five business days to go into effect.

REMINDER: All families are required to complete the student transportation form. Even if your child is a car rider or attends daycare, please still select “bus” as an option. This ensures your child can be assigned a bus route number if needed.

Important Updates: Semester Exam Exemptions & Early Checkout Procedures

Dear Gator Families,
We have some important updates and reminders regarding semester exam exemptions at Banks Junior High. With the recent update to LCISD Board Policy EIAA (Local), there are new expectations for student attendance on exam days even if a student is exempt from the assessment. Please review the guidelines below to ensure your child maintains their exemption and that checkout on exam days runs smoothly.

Attendance Requirements for Exempt Students
  • All students must report to their regularly scheduled class each exam day and be counted present by the teacher no later than 10:45 AM.
  • Students arriving after 10:45 AM will be marked absent for the entire day and will lose their exemption.
  • If a student is absent on the day of the exam, they will be required to take the assessment at a later date set by campus administration.
  • If the assessment is not completed, the student will receive a zero for the final/semester exam grade, per district policy (EIAA Local).
On-Campus Plan for Exempt Students
  • After attendance is taken, an announcement will be made releasing exempt students.
  • Exempt students who remain on campus will move to designated locations by grade level.
Early Checkout Procedures
If parents/guardians choose to check out an exempt student early:
  • All normal campus checkout procedures must be followed.
  • The adult checking out the student must:
  • Present a valid ID
  • Be listed on the student’s Skyward emergency contact list
  • Please expect possible delays during peak checkout times and plan accordingly. We appreciate your patience as we ensure a safe and orderly process.
Please refer to the attached schedule for exact exam dates and times. We have made a few small updates to reflect these procedures.
Thank you for your partnership and support as we work to provide a smooth and successful exam experience for all students. We wish our Gators the best of luck on their finals!

Summer TCHATT

Good morning Gator Families,

As we begin preparing for summer, we want to remind families that mental health support services through TCHATT remain available throughout the summer months for students who may need continued support.

TCHATT will continue operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM–5:00 PM and accepts referrals all summer long. Students are able to participate in virtual sessions from home while school is out.

Please review the important guidelines for summer telehealth sessions:

  • Students must be physically located within the state of Texas at the time of the session.
  • If a parent or guardian is not present, an authorized adult must remain in the home for the entire session.
  • Sessions include a 15-minute waiting window. If a student does not log on within 15 minutes, the appointment is considered a no-show.
  • Students may not participate in sessions while in a moving vehicle.
  • Families should ensure students have a quiet, private space for sessions without distractions or interruptions.

If your child may benefit from mental health support this summer, referrals are still being accepted.

We are grateful for our partnership with TCHATT and their continued support of students and families beyond the school year.

Thank you,
Dr. Dickey
